Sub-inspector dead as police van comes under attack in Swat

Security guard of the official was also severely injured in the attack by unidentified assailants

MINGORA: Unidentified assailants shot dead a police official in Swat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday, a day after two police personnel were killed in Lakki Marwat.

The incident occurred in Shahdara Watkay area on the outskirts of Mingora city when attackers ambushed a police vehicle and opened fire at it.

Police sub-inspector killed, constable injured in Mardan

Sub-inspector Mohammad Ilyas of Shangla police was killed on the spot while his guard Yousaf Shah sustained serious injuries.

The body was shifted to Saidu Sharif's central hospital while a First Information Report (FIR) was registered in Mingora police station.

On Monday, militants shot dead two police personnel in Lakki Marwat district. Similarly, assailants opened fire at Charbagh police station Saturday evening, injuring two personnel.

11 killed, 31 injured in Jamrud check post blast

On April 10, militants shot dead a leader of Awami National Party (ANP), Jamshed Ali Khan near Manglawar area. Later, defunct organisation Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.

The growing number of killings is causing unrest and panic in K-P, especially Swat, where police personnel and ANP circles seem to be the target.
