England all-rounder Moeen Ali was detained at Birmingham airport when he was on his way to join the Worcestershire side for the opening game of the 2016 County Championship.

The 28-year-old was held back for about 40 minutes owing to "airport rules and regulations."

A humiliated Ali took Twitter to express his disappointment over the behaviour of airport authorities. The all-rounder claimed he has never been treated in this manner while travelling for national duty.

The all-rounder’s family is originally from Kashmir, and he is often regarded as the role model for British Asians.

As of now, there has been no clarification from airport authorities regarding the incident,  but it seems that it was Ali’s beard and his faith which led to him being detained at his hometown airport.

While Ali was supported by fans and fellow players, some trolled him for his resemblance to "ISIS members."
