Oratory: PU team wins Punjabi debate at GCU

LAHORE: The debating society of the Government College University (GCU) on Wednesday organised the Fourth Inter-University Safdar Mir Punjabi Takra 2016. A team from the Punjab University won the contest.  The topic debated in the final round was Rent Out the Educational Institutions. Hamza Mustafa of the Punjab University was declared the best Punjabi speaker and was awarded the Shaheed Mohib Raza Shield. Mubashir Syed and Yasir Farooq secured the second and the third positions. Muhammad Umar Nizami, the president of the GCU Punjabi Majlis chaired the debates. Poet Qaim Naqvi was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony. As many as 14 teams from various educational institutions took part in the debate. GCU Vice Chancellor Hassan Amir Shah congratulated the debating society for organising Punjabi and Pashto debates. “Our heritage is enshrined in these languages and their literature,” he said. Professor Haroon qadir and Professor Mehmoodul Hassan Bazmi were the judges of the debate.
