PESHAWAR:

The labour union of Construction and Works (C&W) department accused MPAs of pressuring department officials to pay contractors before the completion of the projects.

Union members at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday said the department usually issued payments following the completion of construction works.

However, some political figures including members of the K-P Assembly had been pressuring department officials to issue cheques before projects were done, union members said.

“Recently a contractor harassed an official and a case was also registered but the incident has spread uncertainty among department employees.

We have requested the chief minister to [take a stand],” said Gul Zameen, the union leader. Zameen added most officials were “victimised” after they refused to follow directions issued by ministers and MPAs.
