KARACHI:
In an interesting turn of events, Pakistani designer Faraz Manan has decided to pull out of this season’s Fashion Pakistan Week (FPW), which is being held in Karachi from April 7 to April 9. The list of designers that was shared prior to the event included Manan’s name but the FPW invites saw no mention of him, for any of the event’s three days. The Lahore-based couturier – who is often seen in Karachi during fashion season – attributed his decision to sit out to a busy schedule.

“With March being the busiest month of the year for us, there were never any plans of showing this season,” said Manan, speaking to The Express Tribune. “We are launching two lawn collections along with a ready-to-wear store right now. It was a last minute request on the Council’s part for us to show at the Grand Finale. We tried for it but couldn’t work things out. Hence, we mutually decided not to do it.”

FPW Spring/Summer is known for its focus on pret wear. Manan had planned to showcase his Luxury Evening wear collection at the fashion gala, had he been able to. “We would have shown the Luxury Evening wear, which was showcased at the recent Times of India Film Awards (TOIFA) in Dubai. But a major part of the collection got sold in Dubai and we couldn’t come up with that many pieces in such a short time.”

Manan is now gearing up for the Fall/Winter edition of FPW. “We are done with the lawn and store launch. Now, I am designing and finalising work for the next season, along with my Fall/Winter Couture collection,” he said. “We happen to have a very good understanding and working relationship with FPW.” Of his upcoming pieces, Manan promised to share more “different and exciting stuff’ from his end.  “With opening the new Faraz Manan store in Dubai, Crescent ready-to-wear in Lahore and back-to-back collections, we have our hands full already. But there is something different and exciting I am trying my hands at this year. We will share it soon, for sure.”
