MQM senator Nasreen Jalil's guard among two shot dead in Karachi

In a separate incident, assailants open fire on MQM MNA Raza Ali Abidi near Lines Area

KARACHI: A security guard of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Nasreen Jalil's was among two persons gunned down on Monday evening.

Unidentified persons riding a motorcycle shot at a mobile vehicle which was on its way to Nagan Chowrangi from Sakhi Hasan, killing Abid, who also worked as a city warden, and his friend Atiq, DSP Shara-e-Noor Jahan, Zahoorur Rehman told The Express Tribune.

A girl, identified as Atiq's daughter, was critically injured, he added.



The bodies and the injured were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The two friends were said to be residents of New Karachi and were apparently headed to their residences when the incident occurred.

Police have recovered empty shells of the pistol used and are investigating motive behind the attack.

Lawmaker survives gun attack

Meanwhile, assailants opened fire on MQM MNA Raza Ali Abidi near party's sector office in Lines Area. The lawmaker remained safe in the attack.

According to Abidi, workers of MQM-Haqiqi group were behind the attack.

"They fired straight at me. But thank God I'm safe," he told The Express Tribune.

Earlier on Saturday, two personnel and two militants were killed when police engaged in an encounter in Quaidabad's Lalabad area.

The militants were suspected to have links with the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi group.



Security forces, mainly paramilitary Rangers, have been engaged in an operation since September 5, 2013, to root out crime and terrorism from the metropolis.

This has also seen an intensification in attacks on the personnel in an apparent bid to demoralise them or deviate them from the objective of maintaining law and order in the city.
