ICONGET 2016: Investment part of solution to energy crisis

Speakers at concluding session say Pakistan making progress in energy generation

SWABI: Speakers at concluding session of the three-day-long International Conference on Next Generation Energy Technologies (ICONGET) 2016 at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIK) of Engineering Sciences and Technology said Pakistan had great potential to produce energy.

The available resources should be used in a result-oriented way by the government, they said on Sunday according to a handout. Funded by Higher Education Commission, the conference was organised by GIK and South Dakota State University (SDSU). Hundreds of scholars attended the conference, including 50 PhDs from all over Pakistan. Foreign scholars attended through Skype from Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and China.



Ministry of Science and Technology Pakistan Council of Renewable Energy Technologies Director General Dr Suhail Zaki Farooqui said Pakistan has made tremendous progress in energy generation as work on alternative and renewable energy has been accelerated. “The government offers fiscal and financial incentives to investors.”

GIK Rector Jehangir Bashar said, “The number of researchers should be increased while working on producing environment-friendly and cheaper energy.”

Dr Najeebullah, the director of Centre for Advanced Studies in Energy, University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, shared they received Rs2 billion for research under USAID programmes.

GIK Engineering Sciences Dean Dr Jameel Nabi and scholars from other varsities also spoke on the occasion.
