Old-age benefits: Pay pension arrears in month, govt told
A number of pensioners retired from various provincial departments had filed petitions
LAHORE:
Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday directed the government to pay within a month the arrears of a full pension announced for elderly pensioners. The government’s counsel informed the court that the departments concerned were working on a mode of payments. A number of pensioners retired from various provincial departments had filed petitions. Their counsel Afzal Shaheen Pirzada submitted that the Supreme Court and the LHC had ordered that the departments pay cumulative pension to their retired employees. He accused the Finance Department of delaying the matter which he said amounted to contempt of court. He said that the Punjab accountant general, too, had recommended that the department pay their retired employees. He said that the petitioners were all over 75 years of ages.
