‘Rape victim’ commits suicide in Kallar Syedan

The 23-year-old man was allegedly raped by four persons; suspects are still at large

A 23-year-old man who was allegedly raped by four persons has committed suicide by jumping into a stream in Kallar Syedan on Friday. The police shifted the body to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Kallar Syedan for medico-legal formalities.


In the complaint regarding the alleged rape, Z*, the victim’s father, had stated that A* was returning home after visiting his relatives on Thursday night when four persons, all of whom were identified in the complaint, stopped him near Gangal Village, thrashed him, and then took him to a house where they allegedly sexually assaulted him for hours.

The victim’s father further told the police said that A* later came home in tears and told him about the ordeal.

A* was crying the whole night. In the morning he went outside to a nearby stream and jumped in, the victim’s father told the police.


“I can’t bear to live anymore with this shame,” Z* quoted his son as saying in the complaint.

The police later retrieved the body from the stream and shifted it to the hospital.

A* was a day-labourer while his father is a retired soldier. The police said that three of the suspects were from the same locality while the fourth suspect was a relative of the deceased.

The victim’s father told the police that they did not have an enmity with anyone.
