Two political workers remanded into police custody

KARACHI:

The anti-terrorism courts’ administrative judge remanded on Tuesday two political workers into police custody in the 15-year-old murder case of a senior lawyer.

Syed Azmat Hussain alias Azmat and Muhammad Hameed alias Pappu, said to be affiliated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, have been booked for allegedly killing Mansoob Ali Qureshi Advocate in a gun attack in September, 2001 in Arambagh area.

The investigating officer of the case presented the suspects before the court and sought their custody for interrogation. The administrative judge, after examining the police papers, handed the suspects over to the police on a seven-day physical remand.

The suspects were implicated in the case following their reported confessions to the crime before a joint investigation team that questioned them during their preventive detention. The suspects were detained by the Rangers in January and have now been given into police custody.

The suspects, according to the prosecution, have revealed the names of absconding accomplices, Abdul Wahab, Shahzad and Nasir, involved in the commission of the offence.

The case is registered at Arambagh police station under section 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code, read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
