KARACHI: Romanian Ambassador to Pakistan Emilian Ion has urged the business community of Pakistan to evolve an effective sector-specific strategy in collaboration with Romanian businessmen to increase bilateral trade.

Speaking at a meeting with members of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) at its head office, he said Romania would like to improve trade relations with Pakistan in every sector of the economy.

“Romania also wants to promote and consolidate bilateral cooperation on the political and cultural fronts,” he added.

Ion said Romania was a land of opportunities and a big market in Europe; hence there was a great potential in different sectors of its economy.

He invited the business community of Pakistan to develop business relations for enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries.

Aptma Chairman Tariq Saud, while praising the ambassador for his efforts to help Pakistan win the EU’s Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP) Plus status in December 2013, voiced hope that through the special market access, the textile industry of Pakistan would boost its exports to new markets.

Highlighting the decades-old working relationship between the two countries in various fields, he appreciated the envoy for striving to strengthen the bilateral ties.

Saud sought support for the promotion and enhancement of Pakistan’s textile product exports to Romania and investment by the Romanian business community, particularly in the textile sector of Pakistan.
