Monday's cancellation gave rise to speculation that other MQM leaders are unwilling to join

KARACHI:

Mustafa Kamal, a former leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) who went on to form his own political party, the Pak Sarzameen Party, cancelled his press conference scheduled for Monday.

Party spokesperson Iftikhar Alam said that the press conference was to be held on Monday but it was cancelled owing to the tragic attack in Lahore in which more than 70 people lost their lives.

Since Kamal's return to the country on March 3, he and Anis Kaimkhani, another MQM dissident, have been holding press conferences every Monday and Thursday. While for the previous two Thursdays, press conferences have not been held, the party has been holding briefings regularly on Monday, in which former MQM leaders, senior members and sitting MPAs have made announcements to join Kamal's party while lashing out at MQM chief Altaf Hussain.

Monday's cancellation gave rise to speculation that other MQM leaders are unwilling to join the former city nazim's party and that his explosive drive may have slowed down but the dissidents dismiss this, claiming more wickets will fall in the coming days.
