Police claim to have identified Lahore bomber

The suspect was out of touch with his family for the last two months

The alleged suicide bomber, who blew himself in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park on Sunday, has been identified, the police claimed.

They said a CNIC was found from the scene of the crime and it is suspected that it belonged to Muhammad Yousaf Farid, a resident of Fateh Sehrani, Basti Baitwala in Muzaffargarh.

According to the card, he was born on January 1, 1988. DIG Operations Lahore Dr Haider Ashraf said police were investigating in the light of the information mentioned on the card.

According to a news channel, four of Yousaf’s brothers and a paternal uncle have been taken into custody. For the last eight years, the accused had been living in a religious school in Lahore. He had completed his education from the same institution and now served it as a teacher.

His father, Farid, is a greengrocer. The suspect was out of touch with his family for the last two months. The Counter Terrorism Department is going to take up the case.

AA | 8 years ago | Reply @Haji Atiya: The presence of ID card on a death trip can be explained, People on a suicide mission has a false sense of purpose, they want to reach target unhindered by taking precautions to avoid any suspicions of law enforcement. Culprits would require CNIC to pass any controlled entry point since that is the first check to assess one's legitimate presence in the area, however, there was none in this case but what if there was one ? There is an equal chance that he might be another victim unless the skull and body parts of the culprit provide DNA match to confirm his identity. Given the background characteristics mentioned in this report there is a greater likelihood that he was the culprit.

They cant provide proper security and now they are showing their efficiency that bomber was carrying a CNIC and it has been found. A bomb that has killed people, would have survived the blast? Did they also find a black box with the recording of the bomber?

If there is a recognizable head and the DNA of the head matches the DNA of the torso with the remanents of the belt or explosive material, and the head matches the photo on the ID card, voila !

I am sure the matter of such significance is not being dealt lightly and they are not dumb, they may have a reason and explanation to the claim made about the identity. Let's wait a little more!

Desi | 8 years ago | Reply One thing i cannot simply understand is that how can our police or other Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) can determine that who is the bomber by just looking at the CNIC. CNIC could be of any innocent person who would have came in the blast radius. Why would a bomber would go carrying is CNIC???. Sometimes our LEAs also identifies the bomber with a severed head, and the same theory goes that the head could be of any one. These attacks are serious issues cause incidents like these and suspicious after incident investigations lead to think that something is really damn fish.

Haji Atiya | 8 years ago | Reply @mansoor: Surprisingly a plastic ID card may well survive a bomb blast if it was hurled away by the force of the blast. If fact, on occasions the head of the bomber though blown off, remains remarkably recognizable. But why carry identity in the first place ? Would it really matter to a person on such a mission who has been estranged from his family for some months and who a splinter group of the Taliban claim as one of their own ?

On top of that the security personnel find and identify so quickly such documents while easy identifiable accused culprits are unknown to our security agencies and cases again unknown persons linger on for years and years to come.
