World T20: Men in green receive hostile reception at Lahore airport

Crowd booed players with chants of ‘losers, losers,’ and ‘shame, shame’

After an unceremonious exit from World T20, some members of the Pakistan cricket team who arrived home early Sunday were given a hostile reception.

In a video posted on social media, Pakistan team members can be seen arriving at the Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore as cricket fans showed their anger on the dismal performance in the mega event.

Men in green were knocked out from the Super 10s round of World T20 on Friday after facing their third consecutive defeat in the tournament.

In the video, team manager Intikhab Alam can be seen coming out of the airport, followed by fast-bowlers Mohammad Irfan, Wahab Riaz, openers Ahmed Shehzad and Mohammad Hafeez, as the crowd booed them with chants of ‘losers, losers,’ and ‘shame, shame’.

Meanwhile, Pakistan T20I captain Shahid Afridi has delayed his arrival for a few days and have opted to stay in Dubai.

Earlier, there were also reports that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have already decided to dismiss coach Waqar Younis, captain Afridi, team manager Intikhab Alam and chief-selector Haroon Rasheed after a dismal Asia Cup and World T20, where the Men in Green only managed to win three out of eight matches.

Sajjad | 8 years ago | Reply Sure it's a game but when same people make the same mistakes over and over again, it becomes extremely frustrating, we played recklessly against india in Asia cup and lost, and here we were so cautious that couldn't even manage a scoring rate of 7, we look timid, sheepish and low on on self esteem, we lack self belief against good teams and that's been the reason for our dismal performance, the match is lost before we even step on to the ground. With all this the same team is selected with the hope something on its own will fix the problem, as if there is some intrinsic self-correcting mechanism. Poor selection, lack of merit and politics, not surprised at the result at all.

beingsarcastic | 8 years ago | Reply Even after having so much problems with pakistan & india ... indians did support pakistani cricketers in their other matches with australia & new zealand .... agreed in both countries this game is treated as religion .. but then you guys should not forget that this is indeed just a game ... even india has lots many games including world cup .... but indians do not treat their players with such hostility when they loose... this is real shame ...!!!

someone | 8 years ago | Reply Despite being an enemy country, not even Indians treated Pakistani players like this. No wonder Afridi gave the statement about more love being received in India than Pakistan.

Haji Atiya | 8 years ago | Reply @A-No.1: You hit the nail on the head, and that something nobody wants to talk about, including ET, is that the average IQ is depressingly low for various reasons. We can talk poor bowling, batting, fielding, and leadership till we're blue in the face, but a lack of basic smarts amongst the current squad is the spark lacking to light the fuse for successful play.

raja | 8 years ago | Reply They should have stayed in India for few days because they were much safer there. Now PCB has become a laughing stock when they forced ICC to change venue from Dharamashala to Kolkotadue to security ut are not able to provide security in their own county.
