KARACHI:
The federal government announced on Thursday names of directors for the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), who will serve on the central bank’s board for the next three years. They are Dr Tariq Hassan, Hafiz Muhammad Yousaf, Zubyr Soomro, Khawaja Iqbal Hassan, Zafar Masud, Ardeshir Khursheed Markar, Mohammad Riaz and Sarmad Amin.
The SBP board consists of 10 members with Governor Ashraf Wathra serving as its chairman. Finance Division Secretary Dr Waqar Masood Khan represents the government on the board.
The rest of the eight directors, including at least one from each province, are supposed to be eminent professionals from the fields of economics, finance, banking and accountancy and are appointed by the federal government for a term of up to three years.
