Revamping standards: PFA initiates crackdown, seals eateries

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has once again initiated a crackdown on adulterated and substandard milk being supplied across the provincial metropolis.

The authority has established pickets at various entry points to the city in this regard. Officials working under the supervision of PFA Operations Director Ayesha Mumtaz seized over 4,500 litres of substandard milk across the pickets and disposed-of 100 litres of milk unfit for consumption there.

A PFA spokesperson said the authority had inspected 94 delivery vehicles at the pickets.

Of these, he said, seven were carrying substandard milk. The spokesperson said 10 milk samples had been sent to a laboratory for tests.

The authority had earlier warned milkmen of indiscriminate action against those involved in trading substandard milk across the city.

Separately, PFA’s Data Ganj Baksh Town officials sealed Heera Chargha on Temple Road over poor cleanliness and hygiene standards.

PFA officials had found flies and insects on eatables at the eatery. Moreover, consumables had been stored in dirty and faulty freezers there.

Similarly, PFA Ravi Town officials sealed a spice godown in Akbari Mandi area. The owner of the godown had been selling red chilli power adulterated with chemicals.

A sample of the wares was also sent to a laboratory for tests.

PFA officials also issued a warning to OK Restaurant on Temple Road and fined Bismillah Milk Shop and Rasheed Hotel in Aziz Bhatti Town area.

Action was taken against both the establishments in connection with poor hygiene and cleanliness standards.
