KARACHI:

The mother of a Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker, Ahmed Saeed aka Saeed Bharam, who is said have been allegedly arrested from the United Arab Emirates, has claimed that her son is innocent.

Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Saturday, Saeed's mother Rashida Begum said her son was called on March 14 by an official of the immigration office in Sharjah, and asked to come to their office. Once he reached the office, he was told to stay there as some officials wanted to meet him.

Court action: Four cops booked for illegal detention

When Saeed failed to return home, his wife went to the office and met him there. When she visited him again on the second day, she came to know that the Sharjah police had sent him to jail in police custody.

"On March 17, television channels broke news that he has been arrested by Sharjah police and that he is a commander of a militant wing of a political party," she said. Saeed's mother, who claims that her son was innocent, said that he was also arrested in 1998 but, in 2004, he was acquitted from all cases.
