Sadaf Kanwal not interested in Bollywood, for now

“Why should we rely solely on Bollywood when good work is being carried out in our own country?" she asks

KARACHI: Signing up for her film debut with Balu Mahi, model Sadaf Kanwal turned her dream of becoming an actor into reality. However, while many are eager to try their luck in Indian cinema, Kanwal is not interested.

“Why should we rely solely on Bollywood when good work is being carried out in our own country? I feel if we need to grow. We need to grow here before anywhere else,” she told The Express Tribune.

According to her, not many from the local industry have made strides across the border. Apart from the likes of Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan and Ali Zafar, she feels the others “have only been laughing stocks in Bollywood”.

All about Sadaf Kanwal’s film debut

Without naming the ‘others’, Kanwal further elaborated on her opinion about actor Meera. “What can I say about Meera? She has wronged herself. I hope she finds the right direction in life.”

Kanwal was also all praises for Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Atif Aslam and Farhan Saeed, saying that the way they made use of opportunities in Bollywood, few have done so. “These men were hardly known by their names in our country but they earned a lot of money and respect in India.”

With Balu Mahi already in the pipeline, she feels if all goes well, she might consider the possibilities of a full-time acting career. “If I manage to gain a reputable name in the film industry, I will do so. I will then prefer to do more celebrity walks for brands.”

Looking back at how she stumbled upon the acting stint, Kanwal mentioned, “Pakistani films were not being offered to me earlier and the offers that came my way were not so interesting. I was neither a great fan of the directors of those films.” She has no qualms about saying that Haissam Hussain is one director whose work she admires.

‘Priyanka has outdone herself in Hollywood’

On who Kanwal would love to act with, she mentions Naumaan Ijaz. “He is a thorough professional. I would love to play his daughter or wife in my next. I just hope I get the chance.”
