ISLAMABAD:

The interior ministry in its apparent haste to remove the name of former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf from the no-fly list misspelled Pakistan on its notification issued late Thursday. The letterhead read: “Government of Paksitan.”

The memorandum was issued to delete the name of Musharraf from the Exit Control List after the government allowed the retired general to travel abroad after three years.

The notification was issued with the signature of Dr Waqar Maqsood, the Interior ECL section officer.

Sources in the ministry brushed aside the “minor” typo, saying there was no error in the content of the memorandum otherwise.

But the incorrect spelling of Pakistan suggested the authorities had no time for proofreading and released the notification in haste to allow Musharraf to fly to Dubai.
