Streamlining: Bus drivers urged to abide by SOPs

SSP Operations highlights importance of walkthrough gates, metal detectors at stands

PESHAWAR: SSP Operations Abbas Majeed Marwat urged drivers, bus stand managers and transporters to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the safety of their passengers.

He was speaking at a meeting held in the city on Friday. Many of the drivers who attended the moot carry government employees to different parts of the city on a daily basis. Managers of rural bus stands were also in attendance.

On Thursday, a meeting of transporters was held at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines. It was presided over by the SSP Operations and attended by City SP, Cantt SP and SP Rural. In addition, around 45 bus stand managers and transporters were present.



“Stand managers should install CCTV cameras and make videos of all those who board buses before the start of a journey,” Marwat said. “There should be a proper mechanism to body search passengers and their luggage, while registers need to be maintained in which names, addresses and CNIC numbers of all passengers are recorded.”

He added, “The most important part would be played by drivers and their helpers to ensure that all these SOPs are followed.”

“Those buses parked at the stand should be kept under proper vigilance and CCTV cameras should be installed for the purpose,” Marwat said.

He added walkthrough gates and metal detectors were also a necessity at each bus stand. The transporters were informed that bomb disposal unit teams would visit the stands to check anything suspicious, while police teams would also visit the stands to check security arrangements.
