KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) sought on Tuesday details of inquiries initiated by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) against employees who stayed away from duties to stage anti-privatisation protests.

Headed by Justice Shafi Siddiqui, the bench passed this direction while hearing a lawsuit filed by 16 employees, challenging show-cause notices served by PIA taking part in a protest in February. The defence ministry, PIA chairperson and others have been named as defendants.

The plaintiffs said the management had served them show-cause notices for protesting on February 2.

They argued that this action is uncalled for, as protesting for their rights is guaranteed in the Constitution.

They pleaded the court declare the show-cause notices illegal and also requested to suspend the notices.

On Tuesday, the PIA lawyer said the notices had been withdrawn so the petition may be dismissed. The bench directed, however, the PIA lawyer to submit details of inquiries initiated by the respondent airline against the petitioners and adjourned the hearing.
