Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah has asked the federal government to bring up the census in the Council of Common Interest (CCI) meeting scheduled to be held on March 25 in Islamabad.
"This [census] is the most important issue and must be given priority," Shah said, presiding over a meeting on Wednesday to review agenda of CCI meeting, which will be held under Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif. The meeting was attended by snior officials of the provincial government. During the meeting, the inter-provincial coordination (IPC) department secretary said the agenda of CCI, issued by ministry of provincial coordination, was the Formation of National Flood Protection Plan. However, the CM insisted that census issue should be added in the agenda as in the last CCI meeting the matter was left to be discussed in the next round. Shah directed the secretary to coordinate with IPC division to include census in the agendas.
Pakistan Peoples Party hosted a multi-party meeting to discuss census issue last month, said Shah, adding that all the 32 parties unanimously demanded the federal government not to postpone the census.
"I had presented the recommendation of all political parties which attended the meeting in the CCI meeting, and the PM assured me that he will talk to army chief to arrange manpower for the security of census teams," he said.
