Talent hunt: Budding artists showcase singing mettle

PNCA provides platform for youth to polish musical abilities.

ISLAMABAD: The youth of the federal capital showcased their musical prowess in front of a large audience in an event organised by Pakistan National Council of the Arts on Tuesday.

The musical evening titled “Talash-e-Johar” featured ten participants from Preston University, Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, Islamabad Model College for Boys and Punjab College for Women.

The participants accompanied by professional musicians and tablaplayers presented songs of their choice in Urdu and Punjabi.

While one participant gave a tribute to legendary singer Noor Jehan, another brought Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s popular songs to life. The participants also presented qawwali and a national song too.

Sana Javed, whose friends were performing, told The Express Tribune that such events were encouraging for talented students by providing them the opportunity to unleash their potential.

“Such events not only provide a platform to the students to show their talent but also provide a recreational opportunity to the citizens,” she said.

PNCA Director-general Iftikhar Hussain Babar said that it gave him great pleasure to see that there was no shortage of talent in the country.

“The aim of PNCA is to give the young people a platform to showcase their talent. This is a platform to nurture and grow talent, not only in performing art but also in fine arts like painting, sculpture, puppetry and other skills.”

Midhat Mehboob was declared the winner among the girls while Kashif Hussain was awarded the first prize among the boys.
