PESHAWAR: An assembly session of Town-II convened on Tuesday; the sitting focused on electricity related problems faced by the 25 union councils in the area. The assembly announced Rs10 million for the installation of new transformers in the area.

Town-II council members met convener Saeed Naeem Ali Shah and discussed various issues that exist in the union councils. During the session, Arshad, a member of Dag union council, complained about outages in his area during summer. “It’s just the beginning of summer and my area is in darkness. We demand Rs1 million for each of the UCs so we can repair our transformers and solve the power shortage problem,” he said.

Echoing Arshad’s sentiments, another town council member said, “Exams in schools and colleges have started, and students are suffering due to prolonged outages in the area.”

Warning bells: Town-II nazim must leave industrial dept office, says GECC

A Council member, Qari Ishaq Khan from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, said residents of more than 52 villages were not paying their electricity bills. “They use the utility illegally. We can see one house has four to five illegal connections.”

Council member needs

Fazlullah, a town council member from Jamaat-e-Islami, demanded the government increase their monthly salary from Rs10,000 to Rs15,000. Since members from the Town-II council do not have offices, they demanded a building where they can sit and solve the public’s problems.

While addressing the session, Town-II nazim Fareedullah said the search for a place to build the office is under way.
