PESHAWAR: Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Muhammad Atif Khan acknowledged there was no shortage of funds in the education sector. “Therefore, no excuses should be accepted,” he was quoted as saying in a handout issued on Monday.

He expressed these views while speaking to participants of a Pakistan Telecommunications Limited team at a meeting in the city on Monday. The moot discussed the establishment of 500 IT labs in government schools across the province and reviewed the role of PTCL in this regard.

Atif said IT was the basic cornerstone of the modern era, but its importance to the education sector, in particular, was underestimated. He said this was why the K-P government was striving to increase its use in the field of education.

The minister said better use of IT would bring visible changes in the overall system, and ensure the attendance of teachers and students. He added serious efforts were afoot to introduce digital literacy and this was being finalised by IT companies.

Atif said PTI Chairperson Imran Khan and CM Pervez Khattak were taking a keen interest, and wanted to be kept abreast on all the steps taken.

Besides others, the meeting was attended by K-P Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education Afzal Latif.
