KARACHI:

A senior leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and former MPA, Shoaib Ahmed Bukhari, was admitted on Friday to a hospital after his health condition deteriorated.

According to the party spokesperson, Bukhari is on the ventilator at Ziauddin Hospital, as he is suffering from multiple ailments. "Being a senior lawyer, he dealt with legal issues and matters of the party," said MQM spokesperson Aminul Haque.

Over 70 years of age, Bukhari is regarded as an old worker of the MQM. He joined the MQM in the late 1980s and has served as the MQM deputy parliamentary leader in the Sindh Assembly. He was also the former planning and development, and labour minister.

Between 2008 and 2013, along with being a member of the Sindh Assembly he also became the minister of Bureau of Supply and Prices. During the 2013 elections, he was not awarded a ticket by the party due to his health, said Haque.

In the MQM, Bukhari served as a member of the party's legal aid committee and a member of the Rabita Committee.

OSD | 8 years ago | Reply @NKAli: To be honest, you are absolutely right. We have never heard of him in either good or bad news, and this is an achievement. But at the same time, the question is that whether Altaf Hussain and all the militants would have been able to operate if honest people like Shoaib Bukhari were not there to run the system for them? And this is a problem. The MQM has, in a very defensive manner, accepted that some of their members did go to India and get training from RAW. Does anyone need another indictment?
NKAli | 8 years ago | Reply Former MPA Shoaib Bukhari has never been in the news for any misdemeanour. Unlike the other prominent members of the MQM, he has kept a low profile and has not received any negative press reporting. Correct me where wrong. May Allah Almighty give him health and longevity. Ameen. Salams
