Two officials of the Chaklala Cantonment Board have returned a sum taken from a man as bribe after he approached the board high-ups as complainant.
The two board officials identified as Atif and Saleem had demanded Rs1.5 million from Nisar Ahmed, a local resident, to give approval to a building plan and initially they had taken Rs13,000 as bribe from him.
After paying the bribe amount, Ahmed approached the board authorities complaining against the two officials, who were summoned by Chaklala Cantonment Board Executive Officer Muhammad Rafique Khan for explanation.
During the inquiry, the two officials confessed to the wrongdoing. Khan reprimanded them and got the sum returned to the complainant. Khan also cautioned the officials against taking bribes, warning them of ‘strict action in the future’. Khan said that he believed in zero ‘tolerance against corruption’ and added that corrupt officials mend their ways or get themselves transferred to other departments as there was no place for corrupts in the board.
