Sindh police’s Criminal Investigation Department claims to have nabbed a member of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan.
KARACHI:
Sindh police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has claimed to have nabbed an alleged member of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The man hails from Bajaur Agency and was hiding in Karachi. He was wanted by the police in a number of terrorism-related cases. “His name was placed in the wanted list of terrorists in Bajaur Agency,” CID (Investigations) SP Mazhar Mashwani told The Express Tribune. “He also confessed that he was involved in terrorism attacks in Bajaur.”
The man was identified as Chaman Gulzar. He was arrested during a raid on a cloth market in Kharadar. The police said they seized a TT pistol. “We raided the spot on a tip-off and arrested him without any retaliation,” SP Mashwani said.
Gulzar allegedly confessed during interrogation that he had escaped from the agency after an operation was launched there.
In Karachi, he was hiding in Janjal Goth in Sohrab Goth. He reportedly told investigators that he was working under the supervision of ‘Commander’ Shina in Bajaur Agency.
According to SP Mashwani, Gulzar had been working as a daily-wage labourer in Karachi. A case has been registered against him and the authorities in the Bajaur Agency have also been informed about his arrest.
