LAHORE:

The government must initiate an independent inquiry into former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal’s statements against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement after returning to Pakistan last week, Chaudhry Sarwar of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf said on Monday.

He was addressing the party’s minority wing convention. More than 170 minority wing leaders were present at the convention.

Sarwar said it was true that anti-state elements were trying to destabilise Pakistan. “If Mustafa Kamal is talking about MQM’s alleged relations with India’s Research and Analysis Wing, his word must be taken seriously.”

Sarwar dismissed criticism of Kamal’s statement calling it a mere “drama”.  He said it was binding on the government to initiate an independent inquiry on what Kamal had said. “Everyone knows what the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz used to say against the MQM,” Sarwar said.
