LAHORE:

The government has decided to appoint Amjad Latif as the acting managing director (MD) of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL). Latif, who is currently the deputy MD operations of SNGPL, will serve as the gas utility company’s acting MD till December 31, 2016.

According to information gathered by the Express Investigation Cell, a notification in this regard is expected today (Monday) after formal approval from the SNGPL board of directors. The petroleum secretary is expected to attend the meeting as a member of the board.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources has sent current acting MD Amir Tufail back to his position of deputy MD services.

According to sources, the government decided to appoint Latif as acting MD due to his experience of handling sales and other issues related to LNG following Pakistan’s recent deal of importing the fuel from Qatar.

It may be recalled that Uzma Adil was made MD after removal of Arif Hameed, but she decided not to avail an extension once her tenure was complete. Following this, Amir Tufail was made acting MD. (TRANSLATION BY ARSHAD SHAHEEN)
