Violations: Kiosks allotted to widows sold on
The allottees are still paying nominal charges to railways but making thousands in rent
RAWALPINDI:
Most of kiosks allotted to widows of railways employees and retirees on nominal monthly charges have been made over into solid structures and sold on in violation of rules. Railways authorities had allotted 60 kiosks to widows of employees who died during the service and to retirees as a welfare step on Railway Road some 45 years. It was a temporary arrangement. The allottees were to pay a nominal rent. They were also bound not sell the kiosks on. However, almost all the allottees have converted the kiosks into shops and many have sold them on or rented out. The allottees are still paying nominal charges to railways but making thousands in rent. The shops are located on Railway Road, from Station Mor to Pori Pull.
