World T20: Security assessment team granted Indian visa

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar had constituted a three-member team to review the security arrangements in India

ISLAMABAD: The two-member team formed to review security arrangements for Pakistan team in the neighbouring India has been granted one-day visa, sources in the Ministry of Interior revealed on Sunday.

Pakistan are scheduled to depart for India on Wednesday to participate in the forthcoming 2016 ICC World T20.

Another member of the review team, a representative of Pakistan High Commission, will join the others in Delhi.



The security team, which is expected to leave for India on Monday, was constituted by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar following threats by extremists in India, warning to worsen the law and order situation. It is headed by Lahore FIA Director Usman Anwar, and also includes a PCB security officer.

This was followed by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh writing a letter to the Indian home minister, saying his government could not provide security for the match in Dharamsala.




However, Rajnath Singh said central paramilitary forces would be provided to ensure security at the March 19 match amidst uncertainty. “If the [Himachal Pradesh] chief minister asks for security forces, we will provide them,” he said.

The decision to go to India is now dependent on the security assessment team's report.
