Precious: Two black bucks born at zoo

The black buck is listed as a near-threatened species on the IUCN red list

LAHORE: A pair of black bucks was born at Lahore Zoo on Saturday. Zoo Education Officer Kiran Saleem their gender was yet to be identified. She said the bucks were mostly staying in a den close to their mother. “That is why, we have not been able to ascertain their gender,” she said. The zoo already has two male and four female black bucks. Saleem said the bucks were healthy. The black buck is listed as a near-threatened species on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) red list. The buck which used to be found in large populations throughout the Indian subcontinent does not now exist in the wild on its own. “They are either found in wildlife parks or in zoos,” Saleem said.
