Free at last: Kidnapped minor rescued from Chakdara Bazaar

Maulana Qari Arif, the suspected kidnapper, was also arrested in the raid. He is believed to be a proclaimed offender

The counter-terrorism department rescued a 10-year-old boy who was kidnapped in the city over a monetary dispute. According to a handout issued by the department on Friday, 10-year-old Shahzad Iqbal was rescued from a house in Chakdara Bazaar after CTD officials conducted a raid based on an intelligence report.


Maulana Qari Arif, the suspected kidnapper, was also arrested in the raid. He is believed to be a proclaimed offender.


Speaking to The Express Tribune, a CTD official said the 10-year-old was kidnapped from Zaryab Colony within the jurisdiction of the Faqirabad police station on July 27, 2014.


As per the official, Arif had a monetary dispute with Shahzad’s father Amjad Iqbal. After abducting the 10-year-old, the kidnapper demanded Rs50 million for his release.


“The kidnapper was a native of Hangu and was residing in Chakdara,” he added.
