Despite a slash in the prices of petrol, the official price of milk was raised from Rs70 to Rs80 on Thursday.
According to a notification from commissioner Asif Hyder Shah, dairy farmers will sell milk for Rs71 per litre, wholesalers will sell it for Rs75.35 per litre and retailers will follow the rate of Rs80 per litre.

Prior to the increase, milk was being supplied at Rs84 per litre while the rate notified by the government was Rs70 per litre. On Tuesday, milk prices jumped to Rs90 per litre. Karachi Dairy and Cattle Farmers Association chairperson Shakir Umer said that when the official rate of milk were Rs70 per litre, it was being sold at Rs84 litre. "Now when the official rate is Rs80 per litre, we are expecting that it will be sold at Rs90 per litre in the market," he said. Shah said they will ensure that the milk will be sold at Rs80 per litre in the market.
