KARACHI:

A musical reception for Baloch journalists and civil society leaders was held at the US Consulate in Karachi to celebrate Baloch Culture Day. Baloch folk singer Akhtar Channal Zehri performed.

This is the second year that the consul-general marked the occasion at his residence, said a statement issued by the consulate on Wednesday.

“The US Consulate General in Karachi represents the United States in Sindh and Balochistan,” said US consul-general Brian Heath in his welcome remarks. “While geography makes it difficult to meet officials and citizens from Balochistan as often as we might like, we do our best and today’s event is a reflection of that.”

Heath stressed the importance of cultural interaction in building lasting relationships. “Pakistan can be proud of its incredible diversity,” he said. Speaking about diversity in the US, he said, “We value and celebrate many different cultures, each of which contributes toward a strong and vibrant American society.
