ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has ensured the federal government’s full support to the first ever mayor-elect of the capital.

Shiekh Ansar Aziz, mayor of Islamabad, called on the premier at the PM House on Tuesday.

“Being the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad needs special attention and care,” the PM was quoted as saying in a statement issued by his office. It further said the capital had been neglected in the past, causing decay to almost all aspects of the city.

“We will restore the beauty of Islamabad and enhance facilities to all residents,” the statement added.

Congratulating the first mayor, the PM expressed the hope that under his leadership, the elected representatives of Islamabad will work hard to improve the state of affairs in both rural and urban parts of the city.

The PM said the federal government will extend its full support to the local government in undertaking developmental works for the provision of civic facilities to both rural and urban areas.

Thanking the PM for his trust and confidence, Aziz said that he, along with the elected representatives of Islamabad, would implement the premier’s vision of transforming the capital into a truly developed and modern city.
