Ghazi airbase: Army officer dies in copter crash

The injured officers and the body of the deceased pilot have been shifted to CMH Ghazi

HARIPUR: An Army Aviation helicopter crashed at Ghazi airbase, some 55 km from here in Tehsil Ghazi near Tarbela Dam on Monday evening, killing a senior officer and injuring a major and a hawaldar. Deputy superintendent police Ghazi Tehsil, Hakim Khan said that an M I 17 helicopter of the Army Aviation was on a routine training operation when it crashed within the Army Aviation base, Ghazi,  after developing some technical fault, killing Lt Col Tauqir on the spot. He said that two others who were on board at the time of the crash were injured and identified as Maj Usman and Hawaldar Basharat. The injured officers and the body of the deceased pilot have been shifted to CMH Ghazi. Meanwhile, a press note issued to the media by the ISPR confirmed the death of Lt Col Tauqir and has no mention of the injured officers.
