LAKKI MARWAT:

An infant died as a result of what appeared to be police’s negligence in Tajori, Lakki Marwat on Sunday. A case has been registered against police officers.

An official of Tajori police station told The Express Tribune that SHO Naseebur Rehman and Sarai Gambila police check post in charge Samiullah were tipped off that a wanted criminal was present in a house in Tajori. Based on this information, the police raided the house but the suspect was not found.

In a bid to locate the wanted man, the police started searching the house. During the course of the search, policemen threw a blanket on the bed, not noticing a two-month-old infant was lying on it. Trapped under the heavy blanket, the infant died of suffocation.

A woman present in the house told The Express Tribune there was no woman constable present with the police team, as is required by the law. She said the policemen also misbehaved with her.  Later, PTI representatives reached Sarai Gambila check post and demanded an FIR be registered. A case was later lodged.
