LAHORE: A man who duped the Forman Christian College’s Character Building Club into thinking that he was a captain of Pakistan Army, delivered a lecture and collected donations turned out to be a soldier of lower rank.

The culprit has been tracked and caught by secret agencies, officials of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed on Saturday.

According to an official of the military’s media wing, a man named Sajjad claimed to be a captain of Pakistan Army and delivered a lecture at the FCCU Character Building Club on February 17. The official said that the man also collected money claiming that the funds would go to charity for internally displaced people (IDPs).

The official said that after getting the information of the incident, the man was tracked down by the security agencies and arrested on February 23. The culprit would be charged under the Manual of Pakistan Military Law (MPML), he said.

Officers don’t collect funds

The official said that institutions should be careful and contact ISPR before entertaining any individual. Army officers were not allowed to deliver lectures without permission and no officer was allowed to raise money.

In a Facebook post, the FCCU Character Building Club wrote, “We sincerely apologise on behalf of Character Building Club for the misunderstanding from our side, in not recognising a fake army person, who came to FC College.
