He was speaking at a meeting at the Civil Secretariat.
He said several programmes for youth empowerment were already underway.
Sharif said the country could guarantee a bright future for itself by investing in the education and skill development of the youth. He said necessary resources would be made available for the purpose.
He said the youth comprised 60 per cent of the population and were an asset for the nation. He said equipping the youth with information technology skills was the need of the hour. He directed the steering committee to evolve a plan for implementation of the e-job training programme.
Sharif said implementation of a Skills Development Programme was underway. He said unemployed youth were being equipped with marketable skills under the programme.
Earlier, Punjab Information Technology Board Chairman Umar Saif briefed the meeting about the e-job training programme.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday. The two leaders discussed progress in implementation of the National Action Plan against terrorism and security arrangements for the final phase of local government elections.
Nisar assured the chief minister of full cooperation from the federal government on action against terrorist outfits.
