PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairperson Imran Khan has said the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government’s focus is on health and education.

He was addressing students at a session held at Convocation Hall, University of Peshawar on Thursday.

“The budget will be increased for education as it can produce great leaders,” the PTI chief said. Imran encouraged students to focus on their studies and engage in research.

“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was a good cricketer and should not have involved himself in politics,” he said. “The prime minister should have continued playing cricket.”

According to Imran, when PTI contested elections for the first time, all candidates from his party - apart from him - lost the polls.

“Students should never lose confidence and continue in their endeavours with courage and patience,” he said, referring to PTI’s eventual success.

Human development

Imran slammed the federal government for spending billions on metro bus projects and constructing buildings. The PTI chief said, “A nation cannot be built by constructing huge buildings as education and health facilities are necessary. The government should invest in human development.”

On the occasion, the PTI chief announced his plans for the Billion Tree Tsunami project in 2016. He planted a tree at UoP’s administration block.

At the same time, the Peoples Students Federation protested against the PTI government for increasing university fees.
