PESHAWAR: A judicial magistrate on Monday remanded a doctor into police custody for assaulting a housemaid and shaving her head.

Judicial Magistrate Israrullah, while hearing a complaint filed at Shah Qabool police station, was informed Dr Shakil subjected his domestic employee Alia* to torture.

The police investigation officer told the court the suspect shaved her head after beating her. He was arrested after her family members filed a complaint against the suspect at the police station.

The police asked for the doctor’s physical custody so he could be interrogated. The court, after going through the FIR, accepted the request and remanded the suspect for a day. It asked he be produced on completion of this remand.

“The man tortured the girl, burnt her buttocks with a hot iron and cut her long hair,” said a police official deployed at Lady Reading Hospital where the girl was admitted on Sunday. Earlier, doctors had refused to admit her at the hospital.

“This went on for four days and finally the parents discovered [the abuse] and took her to a police station,”
he added.
