For power: Local councillors fight for funds

SWABI: Nazims, naib nazims, farmers and youth councillors of 14 village councils in Swabi tehsil have formed an organisation to safeguard their right to local government funds. A meeting was where posts were allotted to different members of the new organisation. Addressing the gathering, Advocate Abdul Salam, the nazim of Saleem Khan union council, demanded the government fulfil its promise regarding the disbursement of funds, powers, provision of offices and other necessities. He added if their demands were not met, they would resign from the councils. Participants on the occasion also warned they would start protests against the government for not staying true to their word. The president, senior vice president, general secretary, press secretary and finance secretary of the new organisation were also announced at the meeting.
