KARACHI:

A judicial magistrate remanded on Saturday a senior official of the State Bank into police custody for five days, after the suspect confessed to the crime.

Ghulam Rabbani, the joint director of State Bank, was presented before a District South judicial magistrate, Shees Khoso, by the Boat Basin police.

Fatal dispute: FIR registered against banker who stabbed mother to death

On Thursday, Rabbani got into an argument with his 58-year-old mother, Naseema, and his sister, Tanveer Fatima at their house in Clifton Block 9. Once the argument escalated, Rabbani grabbed a knife and stabbed Naseema. Since no one from the family came forward to lodge an FIR, the duty officer at Boat Basin police station, sub-inspector Zulfikar Ali became the complainant. The FIR against the suspect was registered on Friday under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of Pakistan Penal Code. Meanwhile, the investigating officer of the case sought two-week physical remand of the suspect, however, the judge allowed him five-day custody and directed to submit a progress report at the next hearing. Suspect's sister, Fatima, is an eyewitness but has been in trauma since the incident. She was hospitalised after she fainted upon finding her mother in a pool of blood.
