KARACHI: An FIR has been registered at Boat Basin police station against a banker, who is accused of killing his mother by stabbing her on Thursday.

The banker has been identified as a joint director of State Bank, Ghulam Rabbani. According to initial investigations, the suspect was under stress as he had recently divorced his wife of six years. Rabbani got into an argument with his 58-year-old mother, Naseema, and his sister, Tanveer Fatima, at their house in Clifton Block 9, said a police officer. Once the argument escalated, Rabbani grabbed a knife and stabbed Naseema.

His sister found their mother in a pool of blood after which she started crying for help. The neighbours gathered, followed by the police but Naseema had already succumbed to her wounds. Since no one from the family came forward to lodge an FIR, the duty officer at Boat Basin police station, sub-inspector Zulfikar Ali became the complainant. The FIR has been lodged under section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

“We are waiting for his sister to come forward for the investigation but we are told that she is ill and unconscious,” said Ali. According to the officer, Rabbani confessed to the crime after he was arrested.
