The Dasu hydroelectric power project, being constructed to generate 4,500 megawatts of electricity, will add 2,160MW to the national grid after completion of its first stage.
According to officials, the government is negotiating with local and international financial institutions to secure funds for the run-of-the-river power project.
An amount of Rs1.44 billion will be borrowed from local banks while another $800 million will be taken from an international bank for execution of the project.
Contracts have already been awarded for relocation of the Karakoram Highway, construction of the right bank access road and 132-kilovolt transmission line from Dubair to Dasu.
In a recently held meeting, Wapda Chairman Zafar Mahmood was briefed by the project management on the execution timeline of stage-1 of the Dasu project.
