ISLAMABAD:

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that he is ready to form a judicial commission to probe the allegations of Asif Ali Zardari over the role of the FIA.

“If the former president [Zardari] desires, I am ready to carry out judicial scrutiny of all corruption cases being probed by the FIA,” he said in a statement.

Zardari alleged on Tuesday that not only the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) but the FIA was also harassing political opponents. He made the allegation in response to the prime minister’s warning to NAB against harassing ‘honest government officials’.

He said that during his term in office, the FIA has never been used to settle political or personal scores. He held out an assurance that the FIA would not be used against political opponents. However, he vowed that the agency would not be lax in taking corrupt individuals to task.
