‘Fan’ comes to New Delhi

Upcoming film helps Shah Rukh Khan connect with his roots

NEW DELHI: During his visit to his college at Delhi University’s North Campus, superstar Shah Rukh Khan loved every bit of getting a taste of his roots once again in the Indian capital. The actor said he finally got a chance to showcase his “dillipan” on the big screen with upcoming film Fan.

After an overwhelming experience at Hansraj College, where he collected his graduation degree 28 years after passing out of the institution, Khan held a press conference at the PVR Priya Theatre to promote the film. Looking suave in a bearded look, the 50-year-old couldn’t thank director Maneesh Sharma enough for letting him explore his “dillipan”.

“I would like to thank Maneesh for bringing me back to my roots and giving me the character of a Delhi boy. This film is very special to me. It’s not just the story that’s special, but even technologically ... the kind of visual effects and make-up that have been used in this film, I think that hasn’t been used anywhere in the world,” said Khan.



The actor stated he had been longing to play a Delhi boy, and was “more envious than jealous” of other actors who played such roles on-screen previously.

“There were only two or three people I grew up admiring since there was no internet back in those days,” he shared, speaking about the people he has looked up to. “One would be Milkha Singh. I loved all the stories that I heard about him ... how he used to be a champion. I used to be his biggest fan. The second was Muhammed Ali. I was into sports, so I always liked him being a little bratty and yet excelling at his job.” He added, “Then of course, all of us have grown up being Amitabh Bachchan’s admirers. I was too did.”

Because he has been living in Mumbai for the past 25 years, Khan said he would have forgotten the Delhi dialect, but thanks to Fan, he was able to rework on it. The film features Khan in two avatars –one as superstar Aryan Khanna, a reflection of his own persona, and another as Gaurav, a follower of the superstar.
