Rawalpindi police book three for rape of deaf, mute woman

27-year-old woman remained pregnant for at least six months before relatives found out about the assault

RAWALPINDI:
Rawalpindi police on Monday booked three men accused of raping a hearing and speech-impaired woman who remained pregnant for at least six months before relatives could find out about the assault.

“Doctors at the Benazir Bhutto Hospital have confirmed that the victim is six months pregnant and the police have registered a case on complaint of the victim’s brother,” a police official at the Morgah Police Station told The Express Tribune.

The 27-year-old woman started her educational career at the age of 12 and later joined a vocational training and rehabilitation centre at the Gulistan colony which is run by a retired army official, the police official said.

In his statement to the investigation team the victim’s brother claimed that the owner of the institute, along with his nephew and a driver at the rehabilitation centre raped his sister.

Police have launched a probe into the incident and attempts have been carried out to arrest the alleged perpetrators of the assault.
